Popular - The Mixes

From pop wonder guy to electro god, Darren Hayes is back in fighting form with his wicked new single 'Popular', the first to be taken from his highly-anticipated forthcoming album, 'The Tension And The Spark', out on September 13. Having created an already enduring pop music legacy with the multi-million record selling duo Savage Garden and a successful solo album (2002's 'Spin'), Hayes has now taken a bold new creative leap into atmospheric soundscapes of 21st century experimental electronica and emerged with a killer new sound that's set to have tounges wagging all over the globe.

With a new appreciation of the irony of the phrase "pop will eat itself", Darren delivers the the mind-blowing, electro-clash spectacular 'Popular', that's guaranteed to put the sizzle back into the charts. Written/produced by Darren Hayes and underground electronica guru Robert Conley, and mixed by the legendary Mark 'Spike' Stent (Björk, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Madonna), 'Popular' is a satirical ode to the fickleness of fame that grinds with irresistible, off the wall beats, fused with Darren's trademark vocals for a slice of pure electro-pop.

"Popular is my take on our increasing obsession of Fame as a vocation", says Hayes. "I'm pointing the finger at myself and the genre that brought me up: it is also an incredibly exciting and crazy piece of music".

Due to 'Popular' demand (it was the #1 most added song to radio in Oz last week), the single will now be released early in Australia on August 16 as two different and cool CD packages for fans: CD1 contains bonus three non-album B-sides while CD2 includes four bonus, excellent dance remixes of the track.

And don't miss the brilliant, slinky and completely hilarious video for 'Popular'. Dripping with enough satire to match the sarcasm of the song, the concept for the clip was conceived by the completely insane Jackass crew, and shot around various famous London location, including Madame Tussauds, Oxford Street and Lords Cricket ground, on two handy cams. With no actors used at all in the making of the video, keep your eyes peeled for the cops trying to shut the shoot down...they're the real deal!
